Nant Gwrtheyrn - Porth y Nant

Nant Gwrtheyrn (‘Vortigern’s Creek’) is a Heritage Centre located on the northern coast of the Llŷn Peninsula, Gwynedd, Wales near the village of Llithfaen. Originally known as Porth y Nant it was established as a quarrying settlement until abandoned some years after the closure of the quarry which had been operated by ARC until the mid 1940s. During the 1960s and 70s its buildings were occupied by a hippie comune which caused much damage to the site. The village is in a very isolated location at the foot of Yr Eifl and until recently road access was difficult. Today the village has been developed as a Welsh Language and Heritage Centre utilising the former quarry workers’ houses which are used for holiday accommodation and for those attending Welsh language courses. Quarry Office? I am presuming that this building was the Quarry Office as a result of comments made by the late Eileen Webb in her book "This Valley Was Ours" where she commented on her father's office overlooking the pier. This building appears to be in the correct location as it does overlook the site of the pier. Above to the right can be seen the course of an incline with winding houses.
