Frongoch Lead Mine - Pontrhydygroes
Originally developed in the 18th Century Frongoch mine was leased along with other mines owned by Lord Lisburne to the Williams Brothers of Cornwall between 1824 and 1834.
Later the mines passed to John Taylor & Sons which traded as the Lisburne Mine Co. Pumping was done by a 40-foot waterwheel, but a steam engine, for winding and crushing, was installed in 1841.
In 1872 following a loss John Taylor and Co sold the mine to John Kitto into 1897 when he retired. The mine in its final years was operated by Society Anonyme des Mines De Frongoch. Underground operations ceased in 1902 with the mill continuing to operate until August 1903.
