Woodfield was birthplace of General Michael Collins first commander of the Irish National (Free State) Army, located at Sam’s Cross, near Conakilty, County Cork, Ireland
The existing structures comprise the original cottage later used for agricultural purposes.
The newer house was burned by a detachment of the Essex Regiment under the command of Arthur Percival who later in his career surrendered the British Garrison at Singapore to the Japanese.
