This view is from a cropped slide taken on a Rolleiflex TLR on 120 Rollfilm. Looking along the B3357 which runs north past the Prison. Lord's Gift Shop and Tea Rooms are on the right. The BBC North Hessary Tor transmitter can be seen rising above the church.
North Hessary Tor. The area in front of the houses was once occupied by Princetown Railway station on the Great Western Railway line from Yelverton.
View looking towards Princetown Square along the B3212 (Moretonhampstead to Yelverton former Turnpike Road). On the left is the former Duchy Hotel, which by the time this photograph had been taken had become the Prison Officers' Mess for the nearby HM Prison Dartmoor. Today the building is the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre. The Mace foodmarket was replaced in the new milenium by as craft centre which had had limited success and closed for a while before reopening recently. When this photograph was open the Shell Garage was still open and can be seen in the distance. There is now no fuel stations on the high moor.
