Blue Plaque marking the cottage where Sydney Simmons was born. He was an oself-made man who became very wealthy. However, he never forgot his home down and generously donated money to create a park, golf club, alms houses and purchased and consolidated the remains of Okehampton Castle. Blackdown, Mary Tavy Common, Dartmoor, Devon - August 12, 1989
The A386 Plymouth to Appledore Road crossed Blackdown, Dartmoor with 2 miles of unfenced road between Lydford and Mary Tavy. Due to numerous collisions between vehicles and livestock this stretch of open moorland road was fenced following a local campaign.

Owlsfoot, Ramsley, Devon - August 10, 1989
Owlsfoot , Ramsley is a sharp bend on what was the Exeter to Okehampton turnpike which later became the A30 trunk road through Devon into Cornwall. By the time this photograph was taken the recently by-passed section of the road had become rather quiet. Despite the by-pass the Owlsfoot Garage had been rebuilt and reopened and traded as a petrol station and Subaru dealership. Today 2021 part of the site still trades as car repair garage though the petrol station has gone the former car show rooms has been used as office accommodation by Wain Homes.
