FV ROSEBUD commemorative plaque. in October 1937 the FV ROSEBUD PZ87 sailed from Newlyn to Westminster Pier, London to petition against the Penzance Council's clearance scheme at Newlyn. The petition was successful and most of the demolition was stopped protecting many historic buildings which are now a conservation area.

South Pier Lighthouse and tidal observatory, Newlyn. The mean sea level for the UK is calculated from this point for Ordnance Survey mapping purposes. The building is a Grade II listed structure. The adjoining automatic lighthouse was established in 1915 and has a height of 10 metres and has a range of 9 miles. The lighthouse is operated by Newlyn Harbour Commissioners.
