Cremyll Ferry - October 27, 2015

The Cremyll Ferry, believed to have been operating continuously since 1204, runs from Stonehouse to Cremyll and is often referred to as the historic gateway to South East Cornwall. The current ferry terminus at Cremyll was constructed in the nineteenth century, with the main building using some reclaimed materials from Mount Edgcumbe House. This is sometimes referred to as the Earl's Waiting Room, after the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe. The later turnstile building was built in the 1930s. During World War II, the American troops stationed nearby used Cremyll Quay to load their tanks onto landing craft for the D-Day landings and laid a block path across the surface which is still there today.

Part of the Cremyll Ferry terminal can be seen beyond the parked cars. The castellated building is the "Earl's Waiting Room" used by the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and his family when travelling to and from Mount Edgcumbe House which overlooks the terminal. In the right is the Edgcumbe Arms Inn.
