Fisheries Protection vessel FPV SAINT PIRAN undergoing refit at Penzance Dry Dock. FPV ST PIRAN constructed by the Dament shipyard in the Netherlands in 2000 is the primary enforcement vessel opperated by Corwall IFCA. Her main role is to provide an enforcement platform from which to monitor activity and facilitate the boarding of vessels at sea by launching her Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB). She is equipped with electronic charting and recording equipment which is used to monitor protected areas and observe high risk fishing activities to ensure compliance with any spatial management restrictions. Routine patrols take place throughout the 1450 square nautical miles of the Cornwall IFCA district and more targeted patrols focus on known enforcement risks. Some wags refer to her as "The Cornish Navy".
