Apparently it is now a requirement that for a new captain to gain Liverpool pilotage exemption 18 sailings to or from Liverpool have to be made with a Liverpool Pilot on board for 9 of these sailings rather than sailings being taken under the supervision of an exempted master. It is understood that the Steam Packet is currently training up two new captains and this was one of the training exercises.
