HMS PORTLAND

HMS PORTLAND is a Type 23 Royal Navy frigate. She is the eighth ship to bear the name and is the fifteenth and penultimate ship of the 'Duke' class of frigates. PORTLAND is named for the (now extinct) Dukedom of Portland, and more particularly for the 3rd Duke, who was Prime Minister.

HMS PORTLAND was launched in at the then Marconi Marine yard on the Clyde in 1999 and commissioned on May 03, 2001.
