TOM ROLT seen at Nant Gwernol Station, the inland terminal of the railway, on August 06, 2009. Beyond Nant Gwernol lies the abandoned inclines and mineral tramway which led to the Bryn Eglwys Slate Quarry.

TOM ROLT was completed at the Talyllyn Railway works at Towyn Pendre in 1991. The locomotive is named after L.T.C. (Lionel Thomas Caswall) Rolt (1910 - 1974), founder of the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society which secured the future of the Talyllyn Railway in 1951. The Talyllyn Railway becomming the first heritage railway in the World.
