Talyllyn Railway 2023

The Talyllyn Railway (Rheilffordd Talyllyn) is a narrow-gauge preserved railway in Wales runs for 7.25 miles from Tywyn on the Mid-Wales coast to Nant Gwernol near of Abergynolwyn. The line was opened in 1865 to carry slate from the quarries at Bryn Eglwys to Tywyn, and was the first narrow gauge railway in Britain authorised by Act of Parliament to carry passengers using steam haulage.

In 1951 it became the first railway in the world to be preserved as a heritage railway by volunteers.

This gallery is presented in reverse chronological order with the most recent images appear first.

The Abergynolwyn Incline Drum. The incline drum house which served the goods yard at Abergynolwyn village had to be demolished during the works to extend the operation of passenger trains to Nany Gwernol from Abergynolwyn Station. However, the drum was never been removed. There are moves underway to conserve the drum and even rumours of a rebuild of the winding house.
