EAST POOL MINE - August 13, 2009
The Taylors Shaft Engine House at East Pool Mine - August 13, 2009. The house contains a 90inch preserved Cornish (beam) engine built in 1892 by Harvey & Co of Hayle for Carn Brea Mine. It was moved to East Pool Mine in 1924. Though the mine surface closed in 1945 the underground workings were interconnected with the neighbouring South Crofty Mine and the engine continued to pump until 1954 when replaced by electric pumps. The engine house and engine is now cared for by the National Trust having originally been presented to the then Cornish Engines Preservation Society (now Trevithick Society) by a wealthy American benefactor in the 1950s.
