Coalbrookdale
The village where iron was first smelted by coking coal by Abraham Derby. It is still home to the Coalbrookdale Company now part of the Aga Group which makes traditional cast iron range cookers and kitchen equipment. Much of the original Coalbrookdale Company Ironworks site is now in the care of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust who operate the Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron in some of the former factory buildings. Sadly the Aga Group ceased iron founding in the site in November 2017 choosing to source components for their cookers from suppliers elsewhere in the UK and Europe.
