    The commencement of Herculaneum River Wall at the end of Otterspool Promenade. Herculaneum Dock took its name from the former 18th Century pottery of the same name which operated in the area. Herculaneum Dock closed in 1972 and was infilled in 1974. Much of the site initially becoming car parking for the International Garden Festival in 1984 before being redeveloped for mixed residential / leisure and commercial properties. The sign is a reminder that the water space in the Liverpool South Docks is managed by the Canal and River Trust, previously the British Waterways Board.

    Bollards and cyclopean masonry at the Herculaneum river entrance. The modern building is the Chung Ku Restaurant built in 2000. Work on these structures was commended by Jesse Hartley in 1861 and completed by his successor G.F. Lyster in 1866.

    The Chung Ku Restaurant is built in the Entrance Island to Herculaneum Dock - there being an entrance both sides. Contruction was commenced by Jesse Hartley and completed by G.F. Lyster in 1866 as show by the date carved into the characteristic cyclopean masonry. The dock was deepened in 1883.

    Toxteth Dock River Wall commenced on the north side of the Herculaneum entrance. The manhole covers would have given access to the hydraulic mains system used to operate many items of dockside equipment including capstans, hoists and the massive river gates themselves.

    This stone was placed on the river wall walkway during work to convert the Harrington / Toxteth Docks into the Brunswick Business Park. It is likely to refer to the time when Harrington Dock was a separate undertaking run to the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board run by the Harrington Dock Company. However, civil engineering was undertaken by Jesse Hartley. Eventually this separate concern was integrated into the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board and rebuilt by G.F. Lyster.

    The former transit sheds at Harrington Dock designed by G F Lyster have been converted into business premises and the dock basins infilled. The two dates shown the building are form completion in 1887 and conversion in 1987.
