Tower Quay, East Float, Birkenhead on April 12, 2004. The historic Hartley designed Hydraulic Pumping Station can be seen in the background. This is expected to form part of a hotel in Peel Holdings "Wirral Waters" development due for completioin by the mid 21st Century. The sunken vessel just visible is the former research ship "SARSIA" which had been the subject of an abortive provate conversion into a luxury yacht.It remains sunk at this location in 2020.

Salisbury Dock was constructed as a half-tide dock and had a triple river entrance to the River Mersey comprising 60ft, 50ft and 18ft entrances. It opened in 1848. Salisbury Dock, Liverpool - August 07, 2004

Steam Tug Tender Daniel Adamson is framed by the remains of what looks to be an old dockside weighing machine. Seen in the early days of restoration having only been saved from scrap a few months ago. The ship was fully restored by the end of 2016.

View across Collingwood Dock towards Stanley Dock showing the north side warehouses which have since been converted to become the Titanic Hotel. The Scherzer lifting bridge, the last to survive on the Liverpool side of the river has been reconditioned in recent years but is now fixed in position. The small metal faced arch was a separate passage under Regent Road for canal barge traffic. A swing bridge was provided, for the MDHB Dock Railway on a lower level and the Liverpool Overhead Railway (closed 1956) on a higher level, in front of the bridge. The footings of which can just be discerned.

A view across Collingwood Dock to the Stanley Tobacco Warehouse right and the Stanley Dock warehouses left.- August 24, 2004. The Stanley Dock warehouses on the left have now been restored as the Titanic Hotel whilst the Stanley Tobacco Warehouse is currently being transformed into an apartment block. This is reputed to be the largest brick building in the world. Collingwood Dock was completed by engineer Jesse Hartley in 1848 as was Stanley Dock beyond. The tobacco warehouse was built between 1897 and 1901 by Lyster on land reclaimed from Stanley Dock.

The Stanley Dock Tobacco Warehouses designed by G.F. Lyster, reputedly the largest brick built building in the world viewed from the access road to Collingwood Dock - August 24, 2004. The Tobacco Warehouse was constructed on a reclaimed section of Stanley Dock by Lyster between 1897 and 1901. Stanley Dock once extended to the 1848 Hartley built warehouses on the extreme right and was originally intended as a transshipment point with the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

Hydraulic Tower, Bramley Moore Dock, Liverpool - June 10, 2006

The GF Lyster designed hydraulic tower and the final remains of the high level coal railway and pumping station at Bramley-Moore Dock. The high level railway, served from the former Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway network closed in 1966. Most of the substantial brick stucture being demolished around 1991. The high level coal railway should not be confused with the Liverpool Overhead Railway.

The One O'Clock Gun, Morpeth Dock, Birkenhead - March 10, 2007

The One O'Clock Gun - Morpeth Dock, Birkenhead. Situated close to the dock and overlooking the river, the One O'Clock Gun provided a time signal to shipping on the Mersey. It was fired electrically from Bidston Observatory for the first time on 21 September 1867 and the original cannon was a relic of the Crimean War. Due to the advent of radio and increasing maintenance costs, by 1932 it was proposed to discontinue the practice. Although this did not occur, firing was suspended during the Second World War. The tradition ceased altogether on 18 July 1969.

Langton Graving Dock Pumping Station designed by GF Lyster, Port of Liverpool photographed on May 19, 2007. The building may be decaying the the beauty of the architecture shines through. The pumping station was built to clear waters from from the now infilled Langton #1 and Langton #2 graving docks now infilled. The gate to #1 dock is just visible to the right of the building. it is a significant listed building of historic interest but it continues to decay. It is on the Victorian Society list of endangered buildings.
