Buckfastleigh: Holy Trinity Church
Holy Trinity Church is spectacularly sited on a high hill near Buckfast Abbey and some distance from the town below.
The tower, chancel and nave is 13 Century and possibly the aisles and chancel chapels 15 Century.
Thorough restoration of 1844-45 to the designs of John Hayward of Exeter included new roofs and the upper part of the spire. The church was severely damaged by fire on July 20, 1992 and was left a ruin though the tower and bells were subsequently restored. The building is Grade II* Listed.
There are many dark tales about this church which a Google search will reveal. Well worth a look for the curious, though not appropriate to comment on them here.
