Buckfast Abbey Crest The Crest of Buckfast Abbey displayed on the organ gallery. The motto of the Abbey is taken from psalm 41/42: “As a deer longs for flowing streams, so longs my soul for you, O God.” The name Buckfast means ‘land of the deer’ and the Abbey is on the banks of the River Dart in the Dartmoor foothills.

Chapel of the Holy Cross dedicated to Saint Thomas More. Sir Thomas More was executed for treason after he refused to take an oath attached to the Act of Succession, which recognised any children of the marriage of Henry VIII and Anne to be rightful heirs to the throne. Sir Thomas' goats hair shirt is displayed in the centre of the Altar.

The Blessed Sacrament Chapel is located towards the east end of the Abbey Church constructed in modern style The impressive east window was created in 1968 by Dom Charles. The window was formed using the technique known as dalles-de-verre in which ‘tiles’ of coloured glass are chipped into shape and laid, mosaic-fashion, in a matrix of resin. Since the creation of this window other windows have been made for churches in Britain.
