Chapel Porth, Cornwall
Chapel Porth is a deceptive place. It offers a vast low tide beach and beautiful cliffs punctuated by large sea caves. However, this area was once an industrial landscape old mine buildings dotted around the area and even perched on the cliff tops are a reminder of a copper and tin mining past. The area is now in the care of the National Trust, located in the Car Park is a kiosk based café which sells amongst other things the famous “hedgehogs” – Cornish ice cream, covered in clotted cream and then covered in a thick layer of nuts! The iconic Towanroath Engine House of Wheal Coates is located above the beach.
