View towards the Lock Keeper's Cottage beside the upper flight of the Northgate Locks.
Looking down the the 3 flight Northgate Locks. Originally when part of the Chester Canal the lock was five flight descending directly to river level. However, with the arrival of the Ellesmere Canal from Ellesmere Port the Chester Canal was diverted into Tower Wharf from where a new cut descended to river level.
The Lock Keeper's residence is dwarfed by the inner ring road flyover completed in 1966. Only inches separate the two structures.
