Llangollen Canal - Trefor Basin and Pontcysyllte - April 15, 2021
The entrance to the Plas Kynaston Canal which once provided a link to the industries of nearby Cefn Mawr. The canal used to act as a water supply for the nearby Monsanto Chemical works (closed around 2010 and since demolished). However, following a breach in the Llangollen Canal in 1945 and a fall in water levels the chemical works began to extract water from the River Dee. As a consequence through the 1950s the Plas Kynaston Canal was progressively filled in.
However, a local group is working to restore the canal to bring canal boats once again into Cefn Mawr.
