The entrance to the Plas Kynaston Canal which once provided a link to the industries of nearby Cefn Mawr. The canal used to act as a water supply for the nearby Monsanto Chemical works (closed around 2010 and since demolished). However, following a breach in the Llangollen Canal in 1945 and a fall in water levels the chemical works began to extract water from the River Dee. As a consequence through the 1950s the Plas Kynaston Canal was progressively filled in. However, a local group is working to restore the canal to bring canal boats once again into Cefn Mawr.

The dock at the end of the eastern terminal arm. It is difficult to believe that this was once covered by a large goods warehouse a recreation of which is depicted in an illustration in the book "Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site" by Peter Wakelin.
